Mal was born September 20, 2468. He is the captain of a Firefly-class transport ship called Serenity, named after the battle he lost in Serenity Valley during the Unification War, and still very much a Browncoat despite the loss of that war. He still carries the scars of that war, inside and out, but they're healing, a bit. The most important things to him are his ship and his crew, and most of their life is about staying just one step ahead of the law.

We've done the impossible and that makes us mighty

His room in the Inn is small, and simple, not an identical replica of his bunk on the ship, but similar. It consists of his bed, a dresser, a non-functional comm unit that theoretically goes to the bridge (heaven knows why, perhaps because Mal just thinks it should be there), and a lot of random shit placed around haphazardly. There is a cross necklace hanging from one of his bedposts, at the headboard of his bed. No matter how many times he throws it out, it seems to reappear there.
